Though a brief moment in SF Jewish history, it illuminates the unique social, cultural, political, and religious forces that merged together to form a robust and particular Jewish expression in the Bay Area, which has continued into the twenty-first century. Oren Kroll-Zeldin, Assistant Director of the Swig Program in Jewish Studies and Social Justice and co-founder of Mapping Jewish San Francisco at USF, will share its complicated story, including everyday life at the first house at 347 Arguello and the controversy surrounding Carlebach.
